It takes at least twenty minutes for the nutrition in the food we eat to get absorbed into our blood stream and reach our brain so that we feel satiated. In reality our brain gets many different clues to feel full and satisfied and the increase of blood sugar and other nutrients in the blood is only one of these clues.
Eating slowly allows you to know when you are full and you can stop eating in time so you do not over eat. This slow eating is one of the many reasons most French do not get (at least did not used to get) obese. I'll write more about the wonderful eating habits of the French later.
Now, on the other hand, when you eat fast food (it is called fast not because it is the favorite food of NASCAR but because it arrives fast and you gobble it down fast) you can eat way too many calories before your brain knows that you have overdone it.

A little is much better than none
A little exercise is much better than no exercise at all. Walking for five minutes gets you healthier and fitter as well as burning some extra calories. If you live in a multi-storied house or work n one walking up and down the stairs is a wonderful way of burning a few extra calories and reducing your weight in the long run.

To reduce your weight eat more
Eat more of the right stuff and your weight will go down. What you want more of is high fiber low fat bulky foods like apples, broccoli, cabbage, and other fruits and vegetables. That way you lower your calorie input while remaining satiated. A varied mix of different highly colored fruits and vegetables are the best.
Another highly nutritious no calorie food is water (water - not juice - not diet soda - not milk - you get the idea). I'm calling it nutritious because it is needed and most of us do not drink enough and are not hydrated enough. You are made of seventy percent water. It transports all the nutritionists including oxygen throughout your body and helps detoxify you so drink plenty and plenty of water....
On the other hand if you eat junk food your body understands that you are eating junk and you'll want more and more and never become satisfied.
So listen to your body and eat more of good foods and allow your weight to go down naturally....

Use smaller plates
A great way to eat less is by using a smaller plates. In fact European plates are smaller than the ones we use in the USA.
Another thing to do is to spread the food over the plate rather than piling it up. That way you end up being satiated earlier.
Another thing I have heard (although I have no proof about this) is that using blue plates helps you eat less.

Lose the word lose from weight management
OK I called this blog as Doctor Jay's Weight Loss Tips because unfortunately everyone uses the term weight loss. However, this is the worst term to use.
On an unconscious level, weight loss is associated with loss and grief for such loss. Weight management or control are positive terms which make us feel god about reducing our weight. We like to be good mangers of our lives. We enjoy to be in control and hence these terms help us in our quest to look good.
In fact we don't even care about our weight, we care about how we look. It might be better to think about looking great. No matter what positive helpful term you use, just decide here and now to lose the concept of loss as associated to your weight.
